Afghanistan Visa Application Procedures and Required Documents

Afghanistan, officially the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, is a landlocked country located in southern Central Asia. Afghanistan does not have a full visa exemption agreement with any country. Therefore, all foreign citizens with a regular passport who will enter Afghanistan must obtain a visa. 

Afghanistan grants visa exemption for diplomatic Foreign passport holders for a maximum of 3 months. Foreign citizens with ordinary, special and service passports must apply to the Afghanistan Consulate and obtain a 30-day tourist visa.

Application Procedures for Afghanistan Visa

Afghanistan visa applications in Foreign are accepted by the Afghanistan Ankara Embassy and the Istanbul Consulate General. The visa procedures to be followed vary depending on which Afghan consulate the application is made to.

For visa applications to be made to the Afghanistan Embassy in Ankara, the visa application form must be filled out online through the Consulate website, and the required documents must be scanned in the appropriate format (max. 25 MB and PDF) and uploaded to the application system.

For visa applications to be made to the Afghanistan Consulate General in Istanbul, an appointment must be made in advance by e-mail and the application documents must be delivered to the Consulate in person.

  • Original and photocopy of Foreign passport valid for at least 6 months
  • Foreign identity card or residence permit
  • Afghanistan visa application form
  • Documents showing working status
  • Hotel reservation or other accommodation information 
  • Round trip transportation documents
  • Current personal bank statement
  • Two 4×3 cm biometric photographs
  • Criminal record
  • Fully certified population registration copy
