Requirements and Visa Application Procedures for Going to Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan is a country located in the Caucasus region, at the intersection of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, on the coast of the Caspian Sea. Except for citizens of visa-exempt countries, foreigners traveling to Azerbaijan must obtain an entry visa through diplomatic missions, online application platforms, or by applying at the airport.

A visa exemption agreement was signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and our country on September 1, 2019. In this context, Turkish citizens holding official passports (diplomatic, special, service) are exempt from visas for their travels to Azerbaijan for 90 days, and ordinary passport holders are exempt from visas for 30 days.

Entry Conditions for Turkish Citizens to Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan is among the countries that do not require passports from citizens of the Republic of Turkey. Turkish citizens can enter the country by presenting their Turkish identity cards at the border gates, provided that they go directly to Azerbaijan from Türkiye and only for touristic purposes.

People who will go to Azerbaijan for reasons such as work, investment, family reunification or education must apply to the authorized Azerbaijani foreign missions according to their place of residence and obtain a long-term visa and residence permit. Azerbaijani foreign missions in Türkiye are the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ankara and the Consulates General in Istanbul and Kars.

Azerbaijan Visa Application

Citizens of countries such as Syria, Iraq, Egypt and Afghanistan that do not have an Azerbaijan visa exemption or e-visa facility must obtain a standard visa from the Azerbaijan Consulate. Applicants who meet the necessary conditions and documents are granted a single-entry, 1-month Azerbaijan tourist visa.

Foreign nationals, if they reside legally in Türkiye, can apply to the relevant Azerbaijani foreign missions with their valid Turkish Republic residence permits, depending on their jurisdiction. Exceptionally, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ankara is accredited to Macedonia and Macedonian citizens can obtain an Azerbaijani visa from Türkiye without a Turkish Republic residence permit.

The Republic of Azerbaijan also has an electronic visa (ASAN Visa) application system for citizens of certain countries. Citizens of countries that are entitled to apply can also obtain an e-visa via the evisa.gov.az website.
