In order to prevent and control the Covid-19 outbreak, known as the new type of coronavirus, and to take the necessary measures against the epidemic, the Embassy and Consulate General of the People's Republic of China has implemented a health code for travel to China.
People who want to travel to China are required to apply for a health code, which is among the requirements for going to China , and if the application is not made, it is not possible to enter the country.
PCR Test for Chinese Visa Health Code Application
People who will travel to China by air must have a PCR test 48 hours before boarding their plane. People who will have a connecting flight to China via Turkey can have a PCR test in their country of origin or in Türkiye and apply for a health code at the Chinese embassy or consulate general. For PCR tests and health codes taken in the country of origin, it is necessary to check that the transit period is also within the validity period and if valid, there is no need to have a PCR test again in Türkiye; otherwise, a retest will be required while in Türkiye and a health code will need to be applied for.
If a PCR test will be performed in Türkiye, it is possible to choose a Covid-19 testing institution defined by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey; the institution performing the test must issue a PCR test report in standard format with a QR code.
PCR Report for China Visa Procedures
The PCR test report must be obtained from the institution where the test was performed; it must include the name of the institution, contact information, the name and date of birth of the person performing the test, the time the sample was taken for the test, and the certificate number. The report must state the "Combined Nose Throat Swab" as the sampling method and the "real-time fluorescent RT-PCR" as the detection method.

How to Apply for a Health Code for Travel to China?
Applying for a health code for travel to China is done by following the steps below.
- Testing and quarantine preparations must be completed before traveling from any province in Türkiye.
- Chinese citizens can apply via the Wechat application “防疫健康码国际版”.
- Foreign nationals can access https://hrhk.cs.mfa.gov.cn/H5/ from their computers and mobile phones, upload the necessary documents and complete their health code applications.
- Health code applications are evaluated by the Chinese Embassy or Consulate General, and if the foreign missions find it appropriate, they issue the health code.
- Foreign missions evaluate health code applications quickly. Applications made before 20:00 every day are finalized on the same day, while applications made after 20:00 are evaluated after 09:00 the next day.
For matters related to the health code, people in Istanbul, Balikesir, Bursa, Canakkale, Edirne, Kirklareli, Kocaeli, Tekirdag, Yalova and Manisa provinces should contact the Chinese Consulate General in Istanbul , and people in other provinces should contact the Chinese Embassy in Ankara.
Documents Required for People's Republic of China Visa Health Code
For the Chinese visa health code, you must submit the following documents.
- PCR test report taken before the flight
- Flight reservation documents or travel plan documents
- Photocopy of the valid passport page containing personal information
