    Germany New Immigration Law 2025

    Germany's new immigration law has been revised as of March 1, 2020 to make it easier for foreign workers to come to Germany. It has been made easier for qualified workers from non-EU countries to immigrate to Germany to work. The current conditions for qualified professionals with a university degree have largely been maintained, but some requirements have been made more flexible.

    What are the German Immigration Law Requirements for Workers?

    In order to benefit from German immigration law, the applicant must meet the conditions of German immigration law. These conditions are;

    Anyone with a work contract or a specific job offer with a company in Germany is granted the right to reside for four years, or for shorter contracts, for the duration of their contract. Previously, a permanent residence permit could only be applied for after working in Germany for a total of 5 years, but with the new immigration law, this period has been reduced to 4 years. At the end of the 4 years, it is sufficient for the person to prove that they can support themselves and their family, if they have one.

    In addition, entry with a job seeker visa is possible provided that German is spoken at B2 level. The new law also applies to immigrants who want to receive vocational training or a university degree in Germany. In addition, they must have a diploma from a German school abroad or have studied at a university or other educational institution that provides vocational training. However, immigrants who want to benefit from this article of the 2020 New Immigration Law must be under the age of 25. After working in Germany for 2 years, immigrants working or studying under this category are entitled to permanent residence.

    Skilled migrants over the age of 45 must prove that they earn at least €3,685 per month in their work in Germany or have sufficient old-age pension funds. Under the new law, skilled workers are also allowed to bring their spouses and minor children to Germany. However, they must prove that they can financially support their family members and provide them with adequate living space. They are not eligible for state benefits such as social security payments.

    What are the Language Requirements in Germany's Immigration Law?

    If you have received a job offer to work in Germany, there is no language requirement. However, when applying for a permanent residence permit at the end of 4 years, an A2 level of German language proficiency is required. For people who are not university graduates, there is usually a B1 level of German language proficiency for coming with a job search visa and looking for a job. A2 level of language proficiency is required for a person to study in Germany in their field of expertise. There is a B2 level of German language proficiency for students under the age of 25 to participate in internships and job interviews in Germany.
