Taiwan Visa Extension, Renewal and Cancellation Procedures

Extension, renewal or cancellation of a Taiwan visa are procedures requested by the applicant, subject to certain conditions, and require changes in the visa status.

Visa extension, renewal and cancellation procedures for Taiwan are detailed below.

Taiwan E-Visa and Visa on Arrival Extension Process

Taiwan e-visas and visas on arrival cannot be extended; those wishing to stay in Taiwan for a longer period must obtain a visa from a foreign mission.

Taiwan e-visa is a visa obtained for tourism, business and visit purposes, and for travels to the country for purposes such as working, studying or living with family, a visa must be obtained by applying to a foreign representative office.

In what cases can an extension be requested for a short-term Taiwan visa?

For short-term Taiwan visas that are valid for 60 days or 90 days and do not carry the "No extension" label, an extension can be requested by submitting an extension application to the local headquarters of the National Immigration Agency (NIA) with the relevant documents.

For extensions, applicants must submit a written statement explaining the reason for their extension request and submit documentation demonstrating their urgency along with other requested documentation. If an extension application is denied, fees paid are non-refundable. This process does not apply to visitors who entered Taiwan visa-exempt or with a visa on arrival, visitors who have overstayed their visa, and visitors who have already changed their visa status.

Holders of visas that are valid for 60 days and do not state that they will not be extended can apply for visa extension directly to the local centres of the National Immigration Department with the relevant documents.

Extension Request for Taiwan Visas Marked "No Extension"

For Taiwan visas marked "No Extension", an extension request can only be made in cases where there is a significant obstacle to leaving Taiwan, such as severe acute illness, natural disaster or other force majeure, by applying to the Taiwan Consular Affairs Bureau or the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs offices.

How to Apply for Extension of Short-Term Taiwan Visa?

For short-term Taiwan visas that are allowed to stay for 60 days or more and do not have the "No Extension" clause on their visas, extensions can be made by submitting the required documents up to 15 days before the end of the permitted stay. Extensions are subject to approval by the National Immigration Department.

The application form for extension, the original and photocopy of the passport, the original and photocopy of the current visa and documents supporting the applicant's reason for stay must be submitted for extension procedures.

How to Apply for Extension of Long-Term Taiwan Visa?

Applications for extension of a long-term Taiwan visa must be submitted to the service centers of the National Immigration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs no later than 30 days before the expiration of the current visa validity period.

Extensions are made by submitting the application form, entry permit and, in some cases, power of attorney documents, and paying an application fee of 300 New Taiwan dollars. The process usually takes half a day unless there is an additional request.

2nd Extension Request for Taiwan Long Term Visa

A second extension request for a Taiwan long-term visa is submitted to the National Immigration Department by those who entered the country with a temporary entry permit or whose stay has been extended once, by declaring relevant documents.

Individuals must meet certain conditions to increase the number of extensions. Individuals who have been pregnant for more than 7 months or who have given birth or miscarried less than 2 months ago, individuals who have been hospitalized due to illness or pregnancy and do not have the health conditions required to travel abroad, and individuals whose spouse, blood relative, third-degree collateral relative or second-degree marital relative residing in Taiwan has been hospitalized due to a catastrophic illness or injury or has died, can extend their visas for up to 2 months per extension. Those who encounter force majeure, natural disasters or other unforeseen events can extend their visas for up to 1 month, while individuals who are deprived of their liberty according to the law can extend their visas for the period required by the conditions.

    How to Renew Taiwan Visa?

Taiwan visa renewal procedures can be performed in case the current Taiwan visa expires. People who have an active Taiwan visa can renew their visa by simply declaring that the planned travel date is after the expiry date of the current visa.

How Many Days Does It Take to Renew a Taiwan Visa?

Taiwan visa renewal procedures are concluded within 3 to 7 business days for short-term visa holders of Turkish passports or foreigners with residence and work permits in Türkiye, and within 7 to 10 business days for other foreigners who do not have a residence permit in Türkiye. The processing time for groups' short-term visa applications is 15 business days.

Processing times for long-term Taiwan visa requests are between 7-10 business days.

In What Cases Can a Taiwan Visa Be Cancelled?

Taiwan visa is cancelled upon the applicant's request by writing a reasoned cancellation petition to the Taiwanese Embassy in Ankara which issued the visa.

Taiwan visas can also be cancelled by foreign missions or the Taiwan passport police, depending on the applicant's situation. Visas of people who violate Taiwan visas or are believed to pose a risk to Taiwan can be cancelled.

Can Those Whose Taiwan Visa Was Cancelled Get a Visa Again?

People whose Taiwan visas have been cancelled can obtain a visa again.

Persons who wish to obtain a new Taiwan visa after cancellation must provide information in their application form regarding the reason for the cancellation of the previous visa.
