Vietnam Transit Visa Requirements and Application Procedures
People who will be connecting flights from an international airport in Vietnam and plan to leave the transit area of the airport during the transfer period are required to obtain a Vietnam transit visa. People who will not be leaving the airport in Vietnam during the transfer period do not need a transit visa.
Conditions for Transferring from Vietnam to Another Country
To transfer to another country via Vietnam, people must have a passport valid for at least 6 months and have purchased the appropriate ticket for their trip to a third country.
If the third country to which the applicant will travel requires a visa, the applicant must also have a valid visa for that country in accordance with Vietnam's visa policy .
Does Vietnam Require a Transit Visa?
Vietnam does not require a transit visa from those who will not leave the transit flight area of the airport where they will be transferred and who will not stay in Vietnam for more than 24 hours. Those who do not meet both conditions, i.e. those who will stay longer than 24 hours or who will leave the transit area of the airport for a reason, are required to obtain a Vietnam transit visa.
How to Apply for a Vietnam Transit Visa?
To apply for a Vietnam transit visa, first apply to accredited visa consultancy companies or tourism agencies to obtain a Vietnam visa approval letter.
If a C1 document is obtained for a Vietnam visa , also known as a Vietnam visa approval letter , the visa is also obtained and the transit visa must be processed into the passport. To process the visa into the passport, an application is made to the Embassy or an officer at an international Vietnam airport.
Applicants who have a transit visa in their passport can travel via Vietnam.

- Proof of Funds: Bank statements or Blocked Account confirmation (2026 rates).
- Biometrics: Appointment confirmation and receipt.
- Health Insurance: Travel or private insurance covering €30,000+.
- Form IMM 5645: Fully completed Family Information form.
